It’s still a cow town, but even though Oklahoma City hasn’t lost sight of its origins, it has grown up around the cowboy ethic rather than grown away from it.
It’s still possible to see cowboys wrangling livestock in Stockyard City, and to attend livestock auctions at the National Stockyard Exchange on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Rodeo Opry, a showcase for aspiring country-western performers, is in the heart of Stockyard City. In Cowtown, shops offer Western wear, tack and jewelry, and a beef restaurant is open 24 hours a day.
